Spay & Neuter

Every year, millions of unwanted dogs and cats, including puppies and kittens, are euthanized. The good news is that responsible pet owners can make a difference. By having your dog or cat sterilized, you will do your part to prevent the birth of unwanted puppies and kittens. Spaying and neutering will prevent unwanted litters, protect against some serious health problems, and may reduce many of the behavioral problems associated with the mating instinct.

Spaying female dogs and cats will eliminate heat cycles and generally reduce many frustrating behaviors. This procedure can also protect your pet from some serious health problems later in life, such as uterine infections and breast cancer.

Neutering male dogs and cats will reduce the breeding instinct, making them less inclined to roam and more content to stay at home. This procedure can also lessen the risk of developing an enlarged prostate and testicular cancer.

Spaying and neutering has no effect on your pet’s intelligence or ability to learn, play, work or hunt. Some pets tend to be better behaved following surgery, making them more desirable companions. Your veterinarian will be happy to spend time discussing the benefits, risks, and timing of your pet’s procedure. Our goal is to help you make an educated decision about your pet’s health.

Microchipping
At Vet Next Door, we believe that every pet should be microchipped. Every year, thousands of pets go missing from their homes. Microchipping your pet can help reunite you with your furry family member if they are ever lost.

Microchipping is simple, safe, and effective. We implant a tiny chip underneath your pet’s skin. It is a relatively painless and fast procedure. We will then walk you through the steps on linking your contact information to the chip.

We are also happy to scan a lost or stray pet for a microchip at any time. Just drop by and one of our friendly staff members will assist you.
